Code of Conduct

KlezNorth has always been a workshop in which participants have been supportive and respectful towards each other. However, because online events can feel different and may attract more attendees than we usually have at KlezNorth, we are asking participants, speakers, performers and volunteers at KlezNorth 2021 to agree the following code of conduct. Organisers will uphold this code throughout the event and we expect cooperation from all participants to help ensure a safe environment for everybody.

The Quick Version

KlezNorth 2021 is dedicated to providing a harassment-free festival experience for everyone, regardless of sex, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or instrument choices. We do not tolerate harassment of festival participants, faculty or performers in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any KlezNorth venue, including Zoom talks, workshops, and jam sessions, the Facebook group and other online media. Participants violating these rules may be removed from sessions and no refund will be given.

The Less Quick Version

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to sex, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, instrument choices, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact including simulated physical contact (e.g. textual descriptions like “*hugs*” or “*backrub*”), and unwelcome sexual attention.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately.

If a participant engages in harassing behaviour, the festival organisers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the festival with no refund.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact the organisers immediately. They can be contacted via the online helpdesk or by emailing bookings@kleznorth.org.uk.

Organisers will be happy assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event. We value your attendance.

We expect participants to follow these rules at all online sessions and social events, as well as the KlezNorth-related groups on Facebook and elsewhere.
