Dates: Fri 17th-Sun 19th March 2017
Venue: Youlgrave, (near Matlock) West Derbyshire

For eveyone interested in Klezmer – you definitely don’t have to be Jewish, or a brilliant musician, or a great singer – or a twinkletoed dancer – there’s something for everyone.

KlezNorth 2017 is supported by the Jewish Music Institute (JMI). Jennifer Jankel, Chair of Trustees at JMI said: “I never thought that I would enjoy dancing and singing so much, a great new experience”.

KlezNorth 2017’s Musical Director will be Deborah Strauss and she will be joined by her husband, and musical partner (The Strauss/Warschauer Duo) Jeff Warschauer. Deborah Strauss was Kleznorth’s Musical Director for KlezNorth 2015, and we are delighted to have her back. Deborah and Jeff are sweet and soulful performers who draw from Klezmer, Yiddish, Hasidic and liturgical music and culture, adding their own original compositions and song settings. They lead some of the most popular Klezmer music, Yiddish song and traditional dance workshops throughout North America, and Eastern and Western Europe. Both teach regularly at KlezKamp, KlezKanada, Yiddish Summer Weimar, and the Warsaw International Summer Seminar in Yiddish Language and Culture.

Deborah says: “Do come to KlezNorth. Those who’ve been are very likely to return, and those who haven’t are still missing out on something quite wonderful”.

The KlezNorth team is also pleased to welcome back Susi Evans (clarinet), a founder member of She’Koyokh and the London Klezmer Quartet and a faculty member at London’s Klezfest and Yiddish Summer Weimar.

Deborah, Jeff and Susi will be joined by our experienced in-house team to ensure a full and varied programme to meet participants’ interests whether that be in Klezmer music, Yiddish song or Klezmer dance.
